The Red Deer Classics follows the Alberta Soccer Association Indoor Rules, with additional tournament-specific regulations designed to ensure fair play, consistency, and an enjoyable experience for all teams.
Please review the rules carefully prior to the tournament.
All teams are responsible for knowing and following these guidelines.

Division placement and scheduling are at the discretion of the Tournament Organizers, primarily based on league standings as of January 16, 2026.
The Tournament Organizers reserve the right to adjust the schedule as necessary.
Any schedule changes made after the tournament begins will be communicated by email and posted for reference.
Final rosters and guest player forms must be submitted by February 7, 2026.
No roster changes will be accepted after February 14, 2026.
All final games must be played for any prize payout to be awarded.
All players and team personnel (including coaches and managers) must appear on the team roster, including any individuals who may join late.
All players must be at least 30 years old at the start of the tournament.
Example: A player turning 30 on February 24 is not eligible.
Over 30 Division: No players under 30 years of age are permitted.
Over 40 Division: Each team may include up to three (3) grandfathered players aged 35–39, provided they are not guest players and are registered to that team for the current indoor season.
AMSL (Alberta Major Soccer League) players are not eligible to participate.
Note: AMSL differs from the Edmonton Major tier, players from Edmonton Major 35+ and older are permitted.
All players must be:
Registered with one of Alberta Soccer’s 23 Regular Members; or
Approved by a recognized Provincial, State, or National Association to travel to Alberta.
Guest Players:
Over 30 Division: Unlimited guest players (aged 30+) may be used from any registered, sanctioned team.
Over 40 Division: Unlimited guest players (aged 40+) may be used from any registered, sanctioned team.
All guest players must be clearly identified on the team roster at the time of submission.
A Guest Player Form must be submitted with the roster for each guest player.
The Guest Player Form must be fully completed and signed by:
The guest player,
The guest player’s team, and
The district association (if the player is from a different district).
Guest Player Forms and rosters must be submitted together by the roster deadline.
Incomplete or missing forms may result in ineligibility for those players and potential team disqualification.
Additional Requirements:
Proof of age must be provided if requested by tournament officials. No proof = no play.
Teams found playing an ineligible or underage player will be immediately disqualified, and all prior match results will be recorded as 1–0 losses.
Players under disciplinary suspension from their home league are not eligible to participate.
Rosters may not exceed 20 players.
Player cards are required for all players and coaches.
Referees will check cards prior to each match, please be ready to present them promptly.
If there is an issue providing a card, please contact the Tournament Organizers in advance of the tournament to make alternate arrangements.
Each match will consist of two 25-minute halves (total 50 minutes).
Stop time will apply in the final minute of each half unless the goal difference is four (4) or more.
Round Robin Play:
Matches ending in a tie will remain tied.
Knockout Rounds (Semifinals/Finals):
If tied after regulation, the match will be decided by penalty kicks (3 per team).
Home team kicks first.
Team Requirements:
Maximum of 18 dressed players, including one goalkeeper.
Minimum of 4 players are required to start a match.
Start Times:
All games begin as scheduled, the clock starts at the listed time.
Teams have a 5-minute grace period; late teams may receive a 2-minute penalty for delay of game.

If, at the referee's discretion, team colours clash, the home team must change uniforms.
NO jewelry of any kind is permitted as per FIFA / CSA / ASA.
Taping over jewelry is NOT ALLOWED.
Bobby pins or hair clips are NOT ALLOWED.
Only players listed on the game sheet may participate.
Up to three (3) non-playing personnel (coaches, trainers, managers, or injured players) are allowed on the bench.
All bench personnel must be listed on the team roster, violations may result in a forfeit.
No children are permitted on the bench for insurance reasons.
A Discipline Committee will review incidents as required.
All decisions are final.
Coaches or managers may request a hearing within one (1) hour of the match
The following are disciplinary guidelines (subject to committee discretion):
Two (2) yellow cards in one match: Remainder of that match plus the next match.
Three (3) yellow cards in the tournament: One-match suspension.
Violent conduct: Suspension for the remainder of the tournament.
Serious foul play: Suspension for the remainder of the tournament.
Boarding: Suspension for the remainder of the tournament.
Offensive or abusive language or gesture: One-match suspension.
All other red cards or misconduct reports: Reviewed by the Discipline Committee on a case-by-case basis.
The Discipline Committee reserves the right to modify suspensions as deemed appropriate.
Abuse toward officials, staff, or volunteers (verbal or physical) will result in immediate suspension for the duration of the tournament.
Serious misconduct will be reported to the player’s district and Alberta Soccer Association for further review and possible sanctions.
Referee decisions are final and cannot be protested.
Protests related to discipline or eligibility must be:
Submitted in writing to the Tournament Organizers within 1 hour of match completion.
Accompanied by a $50 fee (refundable if protest is upheld).
Decisions will be rendered within 1 hour of protest submission.
The Tournament Organizers’ decision is final and will be communicated directly to the involved teams.
